ABOUT TIMEPIECE
COLLABORATOR:Kevin Burke, AIA
TIMEPIECE house is a building formed by the calibration of daylight over the course of the solar seasons with the day-to-day cycles and details of living. Intended as a laboratory for daylight, it enables the observation of time, scale, place, and experience.
The ongoing design and construction of TIMEPIECE has provided the opportunity to continue researching the resonance between theory and practice.
Ecological thesis: a building formed by cycles and structures in nature has the potential to inspire mindfulness. Our hope is that exposure to this instrument over time will expand our ecological literacy; informing the decisions we make that impact the environment. By operating as an observatory of time and nature, the house acts as a pedagogical instrument.
The design concepts - derived from the forces of nature and humanity - are linked by the thread of Time:
Light and Shadow, History, Weathering, Memory.
